What Is Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday is an e-commerce term referring to the Monday following the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend. As brick-and-mortar stores do with Black Friday, online retailers usually offer special promotions, discounts, and sales on this day. Traditional retailers generally offer exclusive, website-only deals on Cyber Monday. The result suggests to some that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have merged into a combination of in-store-and-online shopping experiences that blur the distinction between the two days.

Key Takeaways

Cyber Monday is the Monday following the Thanksgiving weekend. It is the second-biggest shopping day and the biggest day for online sales. The term Cyber Monday was coined in 2005 by Shop.org, the online arm of the National Retail Federation.Although Cyber Monday had its origins in the United States, it now happens in other countries as well. The Black Friday/Cyber Monday movement has inspired other special days, including Small Business Saturday and Giving Tuesday, which is dedicated to charitable giving.

Understanding Cyber Monday

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season in the United States. The season is marked by Black Friday, which occurs the day after Thanksgiving. Black Friday tends to be the busiest single shopping day of the year. Another key day for retailers is Cyber Monday, which falls on the Monday right after the Thanksgiving holiday.

The term Cyber Monday was coined in 2005 by Shop.org, the online arm of the National Retail Federation (NRF). It was created as a way to encourage consumers to shop online. The trade association noted that web purchases often spiked on the Monday after Thanksgiving in prior years. Since its inception, online retailers have been offering deep discounts to consumers.

Traditional brick-and-mortar retailers also joined the event, devoting increasing amounts of time and energy to online sales to compete with each other as well as with their cyber rivals. And it isn't uncommon for retailers—both online and traditional—to begin offering sales well before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Consumers relish Cyber Monday for several reasons. Many people don't want to spend time away from family during the holiday just to get a bargain, while others don't want to wait in the long lines that form on Black Friday. Cyber Monday provides consumers with a convenient, hassle-free way to shop and cash in on some great deals. And with most retailers now offering free shipping as an incentive to shop on Cyber Monday, it makes shopping online even more attractive.

Although Cyber Monday had its origins in the United States, it is now an international concept. Many e-commerce companies around the world use the term to market promotions to boost their sales at that time of year.

History of Cyber Monday

As noted above, Cyber Monday was created by the NRF's Shop.org in 2005. It noted that consumers generally flocked online after Thanksgiving to do their shopping. There were a few different theories as to why this was so.

One theory suggested that people saw items in stores and shopping malls over the weekend but waited until Monday to buy them at work where they had computers with faster internet connections.

Another theory attributed the phenomenon to the unpleasant experiences brought on by the Thanksgiving weekend. If you were looking to land some phenomenal bargains, you could skip the family feast, camp out in the parking lot of your favorite store, and fight your way through a mob of bargain hunters at the break of dawn on Black Friday. Or you could roll out of bed on Monday morning, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and browse the web for rock-bottom prices.

Consumers embraced Cyber Monday. Sales jumped from $484 million in 2005 to more than $11 million in 2022. We explore more of the numbers associated with Cyber Monday in the next section.

Black Friday remains the busiest shopping day of the year even though Cyber Monday sales outpaced those from Black Friday in 2020. This was largely due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cyber Monday Milestones

With its official naming, Cyber Monday became designated as the day for deals and discounts, reinforcing its popularity. There was a huge impact almost immediately. The following are some of the key milestones associated with Cyber Monday:

2005: Sales were $484 million. By 2010, that number exceeded the $1 billion mark.2011: CNBC reported for the first time that Black Friday and Cyber Monday merged into a single Thanksgiving shopping weekend.2016: Most major retailers extended sales from a single Cyber Monday to a full Cyber Week, offering a revolving menu of deals over several days. Amazon led that movement followed by Kohl's, which extended its Cyber sale into December.2019: Cyber Monday sales reached $9.4 billion. Adobe Analytics predicted sales of $9.2 billion but this figure increased due to late-night shoppers grabbing deals online.

Cyber Monday During COVID-19

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, more consumers shopped online during Thanksgiving weekend than ever before even though Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year. Black Friday digital spending hit $9 billion and Cyber Monday spending reached nearly $10 billion.

As many as 30% of shoppers said they planned to shop Cyber Monday sales, compared to the 24% who planned to shop on Black Friday. The pandemic likely had a lot to do with this outcome. In 2021 and 2022, Black Friday returned to primacy, including in online sales.

For 2022, Black Friday saw 87.2 million shoppers, followed by 77 million more on Cyber Monday, according to the NRF. Cyber Monday sales reached $11.3 billion, according to Adobe Analytics.

$957.3 billion to $966.6 billion

Sales estimates from the NRF for the 2023 holiday season, which is an increase of 3% and 4%. This range includes shopping during Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday Goes Global

Cyber Monday occurred solely in the United States in 2005. But the event has since become an international marketing term. As many as 28 countries participate in Cyber Monday, with awareness highest in the U.K. at 89%. Other top countries based on their awareness levels include Germany (86%), Spain (85%), Italy (80%), Netherlands (70%), Sweden (69%), and Denmark (52%).

All this has led major U.S. retailers to build e-commerce websites in the language of the target audience, a move designed to build a loyal customer base in other countries. Events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday provide retailers with opportunities to reach new markets and grow globally. This also involves analysis of buying trends to determine what appeals to shoppers in other countries and how best to meet demand.

Beyond Cyber Monday

The Black Friday-Cyber Monday mania has sparked other days dedicated to specific industries. For instance:

Small Business Saturday falls on the day after Black Friday. This is generally the last Saturday in November. This day was launched in 2010 as a way to pull consumers away from large, big-box retailers and draw them to shop with local small businesses.

Giving Tuesday falls on the Tuesday after Cyber Monday. This day was first introduced to consumers in 2012 as a way to promote charitable donations during the holiday season and to counter the commercialization and consumer culture of the Thanksgiving season. Many large corporations, such as Google, Meta (formerly Facebook), and UNICEF have since become partners for Giving Tuesday, with pledges to match donations made by employees and the general public.

Green Monday was reportedly created in 2007 by eBay and is commonly known as the second Cyber Monday because of its focus on online shopping. More specifically, it represents the boost in last-minute shopping for the holiday season. It occurs on the second Monday of December.

How Much Did U.S. Consumers Spend Online on Cyber Monday in 2022?

Total online sales on Cyber Monday 2022 in the U.S. were $11.3 billion, according to Adobe Analytics. This made Cyber Monday 2022 the biggest online e-commerce day of all time.

How Did the COVID-19 Pandemic Affect In-Person Shopping in 2020?

Sales at brick-and-mortar stores declined almost 24% during Cyber Week 2020, which was considered a major contributing factor to the uptick in online sales.

What Is the Peak Buying Time on Cyber Monday?

According to Adobe Analytics, the peak buying hour on Cyber Monday 2022 was 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST, when the buying rate reached $12.8 million per minute.

The Bottom Line

Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States that falls on the fourth Thursday of November each year. Most people take the day to spend time with family and give thanks. But the day also marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season—notably with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which are two of the biggest days for retailers. Cyber Monday falls on the Monday after Thanksgiving and allows consumers to take advantage of deep discounts and bargains offered by businesses online.

Key Information

Last year's best deals

This year's Cyber Monday 2024 may feel like a distant prospect now but let us tell you - it'll be here before you know it. If you're already thinking about getting your Cyber Monday deals shopping list together for this annual shopping extravaganza then welcome - you'll find everything you need to know right here on this page. We've included exactly what to expect, when this year's Cyber Monday deals will start (hint: it's usually before the event itself), and a handy roundup of last year's top sales. Generally speaking, we're not expecting this year's event to deviate much from the tried-and-true discounts at leading retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart, but one thing is sure - we're almost certain to see record-low prices on plenty of highly reviewed tech. This is also the page we'll be using to round up this year's Cyber Monday deals once the time comes. As of writing, it's a little too early for us to provide regular updates but this page will be worked on actively throughout 2024. If we spot any news, think of any other tips, or receive any tidbits, we'll be sure to let you know well ahead of the big day itself. Subsequently, we highly recommend bookmarking this page before December.Cyber Monday deals 2024: FAQWhen is Cyber Monday 2024?2024's Cyber Monday will fall on December 2nd this year. For reference, Cyber Monday always occurs the following Monday after Black Friday, which in turn follows Thanksgiving.

If you're looking for a bargain, however, note that we'll likely see plenty of deals ahead of the big day itself - sometimes upwards of a month in advance, in fact. Last year, for example, we even had a second Amazon Prime Day in October, dubbed the 'Prime Big Deal Days' sale (running from Oct. 10-11).

Generally speaking, we usually recommend our readers be on the lookout from November 1st onwards. That's not only based on our anecdotal experience of covering these events for many years but also backed up in data. Adobe's 2023 shopping forecast report tracked prices last year and found that discounts started in October with an average of 5-8% off. These discounts then deepened from 12-20% off around November 1st, followed by further reductions of up to 30% in the week preceding Black Friday. (Image credit: Getty Images / Oscar Wong)Is Cyber Monday better than Black Friday? In terms of deal quality - not really. Both events feature relative parity when it comes to overall discounts. You may see a few Cyber Monday specials and visa versa, but generally speaking you'll see the same things on sale with similar prices.

We've been covering both events for years here at TechRadar and we can confidently say you'll be able to get great tech deals on both days. It used to be the case that Black Friday was more focused on brick-and-mortar sales while Cyber Monday was more online-based, but that's simply not the case now. Both are primarily online-focused these days - and you don't need to rush out to find a great deal. As previously mentioned, you may even have a few days to consider your purchase and do some research.

In terms of spend, Cyber Monday actually exceeds Black Friday at $12.4B vs $9.98B, which we'd put down to the 'fear of missing out' factor and the fact that consumers are more aware that they have time to research now.

Once discounted on Black Friday, retailers don't tend to further discount items on Cyber Monday, although we do often see 'flash sales' or something similar. These don't tend to be on massively popular tech like iPads or Air Pods, but they do sometimes cover more nice things like vacuums or cameras. Amazon in particular loves a 'lightning deal' so keep an eye out for those throughout the period. What Cyber Monday deals should we expect in 2024Similar discounts to Black FridayGenuine record-low prices on techTVs, laptops, headphones, smartwatchesApparel, toys, mattresses, appliances also featuredSales from Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and moreWhile we can't get our crystal ball out and determine exactly what this year's Cyber Monday deals will entail, we can confidently say you'll see some of the lowest prices all year on highly reviewed tech. Last year's sale, for example, had some outstanding options for tech lovers across the board. We saw record-breaking discounts across a range of our favorite models here at TechRadar, such as the MacBook Air 15, the Dell XPS 13, and the iPad 10.9. While there were plenty of TV deals starting as low as $50, Our TV of the year, the stunning Samsung S90C OLED was on sale for its lowest-ever price over Cyber Monday. Gamers also had some great choices in the form of decent Xbox Series X and Meta Quest 3 bundles (including discounts and free games). Outside of core tech, we also found some superb discounts on small appliances, with air fryers starting at just $29, record-low prices on Shark and Dyson vacuums, and plenty of options for coffee machines, Instant Pots, and other useful kitchen additions.Other areas where we're expecting fantastic Cyber Monday deals are in competitive categories like toys, mattresses and apparel. Of the three, we'll be most heavily featuring mattresses in our Cyber Monday roundup since we personally review mattresses all year round. We've generally observed some of the best prices on our favorite mattresses over Cyber Monday so stay tuned for those. We don't usually recommend specific apparel here at TechRadar but we will include extensive overview of the best sales to check out over Cyber Monday. These will usually include clothing sales, as well as other useful stores like Lowes or Home Depot.Where can you find the best Cyber Monday deals? We'll be rounding up all the best Cyber Monday deals right here into one handy list so all you need to do is bookmark our page and revisit once sales start in November. That said, there are plenty of retailers that we'd recommend upfront as great options depending on your needs. Recommended: A healthy $260 price cut in the Best Buy Cyber Monday sale makes this 15.6-inch HP one of the best cheap laptop deals we've seen in a long time. This isn't a super high-end model but you're getting a Ryzen 7 chipset and 16GB of RAM in a machine that's well under $400. From a sheer bang-for-the-buck perspective, this is one incredibly specced-out machine for under $400 and one that's absolutely perfect for an everyday workhorse. The only downside? The rather small 256GB SSD, which isn't much storage-wise - and this model was $20 cheaper on Cyber Monday itself. Dell XPS 13 laptop: was $799 now $599 at Dell

This is the cheapest price we've ever seen for a Dell XPS 13 laptop, and it's one of the latest models to boot. As you'd expect, this isn't the highest configuration since it's got a 12th gen Intel Core i5 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD, but this is a superb price for such a premium machine. The main selling points are the gorgeous aluminum chassis, excellent display, and incredibly lightweight design that's perfect for everyday carry.Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop: was $1,599 now $1,199.99 at Best Buy

The Asus G14 has been one of our favorite gaming laptops ever since its introduction in 2020 and Best Buy's Cyber Monday deals are offering an incredible price on the latest model right now. This stunning machine features a potent combination of an RTX 4070 graphics card, AMD Ryzen 9-7940HS chipset, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD - all extremely high-end considering this machine's lightweight 14-inch form factor. MacBook Air 13-inch (M1): was $999.99 now $749.99 at Best Buy

The 2020 Apple MacBook Air with an M1 chip is a little old now, but it's still one of the best laptops ever made - and Best Buy has the laptop on sale for a record-low price of $749.99. Amazon dropped the latest 15-inch MacBook Air to $1,049 - the lowest price we've ever seen. No surprises - we're huge fans of this model at TechRadar and awarded it four stars out of five during our Apple MacBook Air 15-inch (2023) review. While it is essentially just an upscaled version of the 13-inch machine, that's by no means a bad thing when you consider the outstanding M2 processor inside. If you can make use of the bigger 15-inch display, this deal is absolutely recommended.NEW MacBook Pro 14-inch (M3, 2023): was $1,599 now $1,449 at B&H

First-ever discount: The new base model of the 14-inch MacBook Pro has got a $150 price cut already - barely a few weeks after its launch. This is for the model with the M3 chip with an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, plus 8GB memory and 512GB SSD. This is a nice discount for a new MacBook, but it's not the most powerful model out there.

This is an incredible price for a pair of wireless on-ear headphones, on sale for just $24.95 at Amazon right now. Five-star earbuds for under $90? You better believe it. We absolutely loved the audio quality of these comfortable, lightweight buds, and were impressed by the features and app control. This is the cheapest we've seen these buds so we'd recommend snapping them up this Cyber Monday if you want a pair of decent buds on a relatively mid-range budget.Sony WH-1000XM5: was $399.99 now $328 at Amazon

Quite simply the newest and best in Sony's class-leading wireless over-ear lineup. If it's the best noise cancelation you want (and you also want excellent sound and smart features), you can't do better, as our full Sony WH-1000XM5 review makes clear – especially with this much off! Have we seen them this cheap before? No – today's deal ahead of Cyber Monday is a record-low price.Sennheiser Momentum 4: was $379 now $255.95 at Amazon

Sennheiser's fourth-generation wireless over-ear cans are excellent – just see our five-star review of the product to see why. Now, for a whopping $120 off, you can get excellent active noise-cancellation, a suite of impressive features plus admirable sound and call quality. They’re also light and comfortable – and the 60-hour battery is just another way in which they're unbeatable at the level. At this 32% off price, they're exceptionally tempting – although they very briefly dropped to $245 in September on Amazon.Sonos Roam: was $179 now $134 at Sonos

When Sonos makes a truly portable speaker that not only plays nice with your multi-room audio setup but also brings Bluetooth the party, you know you're onto a winner. And although it might have seemed a little steep at its regular MSRP, this money is far more palatable – and it's never been as cheap as this to date. Clarity? Of course: earlier this year, Sonos dropped it briefly to $134, so you're matching its lowest price as long as you buy between November 17 and 27, which is how long Sonos' sale lasts. Tribit Stormbox Micro 2: was $79.99 now $42.99 at Amazon

In our Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 review, we went as far to say that this is the "best-sounding and most fully-featured mini Bluetooth speaker we've had the pleasure of testing", so it's probably no surprise that any saving on this budget speaker would catch our attention. Amazon is offering 40% off the Stormbox Micro 2, and you can also get a further $5 off by applying a coupon, taking it down to $42.99. Bargain!Meta Quest 3 (128GB) + Asgard's Wrath 2: $499 at Amazon

Google's best Pixel is still getting a great discount; it dropped by $210 to its lowest price ever for Black Friday and though it's now risen by $10 for Cyber Monday that's still a big saving. This is a fantastic Pixel phone, with great cameras and cool new AI features that you'll only find on Pixel. The best part is that Google promised to support this phone for seven years, longer than any other phone, so this great deal will pay off long term.   Samsung Galaxy S23 series: up to 25% off via app, plus up to $800 off with a trade-in at Samsung

Verizon's headline Cyber Monday deal is here, and it's offering a free 10th-gen iPad 10.9 and a free 2nd-gen Apple Watch SE. Cyber Monday, shopping holiday promoted by retailers as a day of savings and bargains for online customers. Cyber Monday falls on the Monday after Thanksgiving and its counterpart sales day, Black Friday. Cyber Monday has become a lucrative day for retail sales in the United States. The term Cyber Monday was first coined by the National Retail Federation in 2005 when they noticed that people would continue their holiday shopping online while at work on the Monday after Thanksgiving, because, at that time, many people had a faster Internet connection at work than at home. Cyber Monday is often associated with Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, when retailers promote doorbuster deals and extreme savings available only that day. Similar to Cyber Monday, Black Friday was conceived by companies as a way to drive sales during the holiday season between November and December in the lead-up to Christmas. While consumers associate Black Friday with sales at brick-and-mortar stores, Cyber Monday is associated with online shopping discounts.Black FridayHordes of shoppers looking for bargains on Black Friday in Macy's Herald Square flagship store in New York, 2018.(more)For decades Black Friday has been a landmark sales event and has drawn larger and larger groups of consumers to stores. The resulting long lines and overcrowded stores sometimes have led to heightened tensions among shoppers, with numerous news reports of injuries and violence on that day becoming a norm. Retail workers have also repeatedly been endangered by the growing crowds of customers, such as the tragic incident in 2008 in which a Walmart employee was trampled to death when nearly 2,000 shoppers stampeded into a store as it opened early on Black Friday. The challenges associated with chaotic crowds on Black Friday proved to be an advantage to Cyber Monday, as consumers began choosing to wait to take advantage of promotions online rather than fighting crowds in malls and stores. It has also been successful because many people return to work after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. They are thus unable to venture out to stores, but they can access holiday sales online. Cyber Monday also enjoyed increased growth when online shopping grew in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While Cyber Monday has its origins in the United States, it has also been adopted internationally as a way to increase purchasing. Cyber Monday has grown in popularity in places such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and Japan despite the fact that they do not celebrate the American Thanksgiving holiday. Nicholas Gisonna

When does Cyber Monday start?Cyber Monday officially starts on Monday, Nov. 27 in 2023, but the online push for shopping holidays over the last few years has meant that they all kind of blur together. As expected, retailers began using Cyber Monday or Cyber Weekend language as early as Saturday, Nov. 25.When does Cyber Monday end? Most official Cyber Monday sales end with the day on Monday. However, in years past, there are almost always deals that are still live once Tuesday rolls around, with some retailers trying to hang on to the last bits of the shopping-centric weekend. Still, you shouldn't count on rare, significant markdowns to hang on through Nov. 28, so if you see something you're eyeing, you'll want to grab it before Cyber Monday is over.Black Friday versus Cyber Monday — what's the difference? The National Retail Federation officially coined the term "Cyber Monday" in 2005 after it noticed that in previous years, the Monday after Thanksgiving saw a massive uptick in online sales. It credited the phenomenon to two factors: Online retailers were starting to vie for a slice of the Black Friday pie, and shoppers were waiting to peruse the deals on their faster work computers come Monday morning. (At the time, office PCs had better broadband than home setups.)There's little difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday these days because of the former's shift online, and based on our experience, neither is a categorically "better" day to shop. Sometimes it's worth waiting to see if an item you find on sale during Black Friday goes on sale at an even cheaper price on Cyber Monday — but again, you also run the risk of it selling out. What is Black Friday?Black Friday is a shopping holiday that takes place every year on the day right after Thanksgiving. It used to be synonymous with late-night stampedes, viral fistfights, and long lines of tents pitched outside of department stores because the best doorbusters were available exclusively in person. But many retailers have made their Black Friday deals available online in recent years, turning it into a hybrid event; you can score great deals by camping out on a store's website instead of its literal doorstep nowadays. Modern Black Fridays have also tended to spill well beyond the bounds of their traditional single-day slots. It's not abnormal to see retailers offering "early Black Friday deals" and "Black Friday preview deals" even before Halloween to keep things ultra-competitive.When does Black Friday start?Black Friday technically falls on Friday, Nov. 24 this year, but holiday sales began as early as mid-October at several stores.Best Buy, the first retailer to announce its Black Friday programming back in October, is taking the most aggressive approach. Its four-part holiday calendar began on Oct. 27 with Black Friday Early Access for Members, a weekend of exclusive access to select deals for paid members of its My Best Buy program, then moved into a general Black Friday Deals for Everyone event on Oct. 30. The full Best Buy Black Friday sale began on Friday, Nov. 17, and will be followed by its Cyber Monday Savings Event on Sunday, Nov. 26. Best Buy's early Black Friday deals will be supplemented with short sales and hard-to-find releases on its smartphone app as part of its new Best Buy Drops program for the holidays. It also hosted a new series of livestream shopping events featuring popular gift ideas and limited-time deals on the first three Wednesdays in November.Target came up to bat next, just before Halloween, unveiling its plans to offer four weeks of early Black Friday deals ahead of the actual holiday. Exclusive discounts and Deals of the Day for members of its free Target Circle loyalty program will be peppered in throughout the holiday season.Walmart ran two Black Friday Deals events in Nov.: The first sale started online on Wednesday, Nov. 8, and continued in stores on Friday, Nov. 10; the second one went live on Wednesday, Nov. 22 before popping up in stores on Friday, Nov. 24. Both events include three hours of early access for paid (non-trial) Walmart+ members.Meanwhile, Amazon geared up to host its own extended Black Friday sale which began on Friday, Nov. 17, and will shift into its Cyber Monday sale on Saturday, Nov. 25. According to its press release, new deals will drop "as often as every five minutes during select periods" during the events, and a handful of limited-time doorbusters will be available during the New York Jets/Miami Dolphins football game on Black Friday (available to stream on Prime Video). Are things actually cheaper on Black Friday? The Mashable Shopping team researches and reports on deals constantly throughout the year, and while we see many items go on sale at deep discounts in the weeks leading up to Black Friday, we always encounter new record lows on the day of. That said, an item on your wish list may be worth buying during a pre-Black Friday sale it's a popular gift or already abnormally cheap: Products that sell out ahead of time aren't always restocked for the actual event. How to find the best Black Friday dealsPrice-tracking sites and coupon-hunting browser extensions can do a lot of the heavy lifting for you — our favorites include Honey, SlickDeals, Keepa, and camelcamelcamel. We'll also be keeping track of the best Black Friday deals ourselves right here on this page once they start bubbling up, so bookmark it for future reference. If you want to seek out deals yourself, keep an eye out for dedicated Black Friday landing pages on retailers' websites. These serve as hubs for their best offers. How long does Black Friday last?If you ask the reporters and editors who have been covering this event, the answer is 84 years. In truth, Black Friday is no longer just on Friday — since retailers started rolling out their deals in October, we can honestly say that Black Friday is now a two-month affair.Once the clock strikes midnight on Black Friday though, see ya later. After that, everything switches into Cyber Monday mode. The deals are largely the same, but the search terms are now totally different.Mashable Editor's Choice Black Friday dealsIf you're looking for the monster list of all the Black Friday deals we could find across all the biggest retailers, head over to our Black Friday mega post. Below, you'll find a curated selection of the Mashable editors' favorite Black Friday deals:Best early Cyber Monday Apple deal

(You can technically get it for even cheaper if you're a paid member of the My Best Buy program, but $1,449 is the all-time low for the general public.) Why we like itSitting at $250 off at both Walmart and Dyson, the V15 Detect Absolute is one of our favorite vacuums. It's right in the sweet spot of price and suction power and features the coveted laser technology that shows you how disgusting your floors really are. The "Absolute" in this model means that it comes with a full slew of accessories: the Fluffy Optic laser head, the Digital Motorbar cleaner head, the hair screw tool, and three others, in addition to a wall dock. Why we like itAmazon is notorious for putting out great Echo bundles on Black Friday, and this year is no exception. This bundle would normally run you nearly $70, but you can grab it for just $22.99. As we head into the final hours of Cyber Monday, other Echo bundles have sold out — including our former top pick of the Echo Show 5 and the Kasa Smart Color bulb. If you've been waiting on these budget-friendly bundles that let you test the smart home waters, we recommend you grab them while they're still available.

$498.99 at Amazon (save $301)

Why we like itYou can bring home the triple threat that is automatic emptying, mopping, and small obstacle avoidance for less than $500 with this stellar deal on a mopping Roomba that just came out in September.Compared to the Roomba j7+, the j5+'s obstacle detection cameras aren't quite as precise, and still may require you to pick up things like towels or socks, or put a virtual barrier around pet bowls. But to be able to skip skimming the floor for rogue cords and enjoy automatic emptying for less than $400, you can probably deal with ensuring laundry gets into the basket. As for the mopping, this is one of iRobot's new Swap and Mop models, which does require you to be home to physically click on the water tank when you want to mop.More early Cyber Monday robot vacuum dealsStandalone robot vacuumsiHome AutoVac Juno — $85 $199 (save $114.99)iRobot Roomba 694 — $159 $274.99 (save $250)Shark Matrix — $199 $299.99 (save $100.99)Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 — $249.99 $449.99 (save $200)Roborock S8 — $599.99 $749.99 (save $150)Self-emptying robot vacuumsShark Matrix — $299.99 $499.99 (save $200)iRobot Roomba i5+ — $349.99 $549.99 (save $200)Roborock Q5+ — $399.99 $699.99 (save $300)Shark Detect Pro RV2820AE — $449.99 $599.99 (save $150)iRobot Roomba s9+ — $599.99 $999.99 (save $400)Self-emptying mopping robot vacuumsYeedi Vac Station — $299.99 $499.99 (save $200)iRobot Roomba Combo i5 — $229 $349.99 (save $150.99)iRobot Roomba Combo j5 — $349 $599.99 (save $250.99)Ecovacs N10+ — $399.99 $649.99 (save $250)Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 — $399.99 $699.99 (save $300)Yeedi Cube — $499.99 $699.99 (save $200)Ecovacs T9+ — $499.99 $799.99 (save $300)Roborock Q5 Pro+ — $499.99 $699.99 (save $200 with on-page coupon)Ecovacs Cube Pro — $599.99 $799.99 (save $200)Roborock Q8 Max+ — $599.99 $819.99 (save $220 with on-page coupon)Roborock Q Revo — $799.99 $899.99 (save $100 with on-page coupon) Eufy Clean X9 Pro — $649.99 $899.99 (save $250)Roborock S8+ — $799.99 $999.99 (save $200)Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni — $799.99 $1,099.99 (save $300)Best early Cyber Monday headphones deal

Why we like itNarrowing down a headphones upgrade from so many on-sale options is less overwhelming when you've confirmed that you want to stick with a super premium, super reputable brand like Bose — but also that you want to stick to a budget. There's only one pair of Bose over-ear headphones you can grab for just under $200, and that's the QuietComfort 45s at a record low price of $199. This classic pair secures top-of-the-line ANC, 20 hours of battery life, and all-day comfort for less than half the price of the AirPods Max.More headphone dealsOver-ear and on-ear headphonesJBL Tune 510BT — $24.95 $49.95 (save $25)JBL Tune 660NC — $49.95 $99.95 (save $50)JBL Live 460NC — $64.95 $129.95 (save $65)JBL Tune 760NC — $64.95 $129.95 (save $65)Marshall Major IV — $99.99 $149.99 (save $50)Beats Solo3 — $129.99 $199.95 (save $69.96)Beats Studio Pro — $169.95 $349.99 (save $180.04)Bose QuietComfort 45 — $199 $329 (save $130)Sony WH-1000XM4 — $248 $348 (save $100)Bose QuietComfort headphones — $249 $349 (save $100)Bose Headphones 700 — $259 $379 (save $120)Sennheiser Momentum 4 — $279.99 $379.95 (save $99.96)Sony WH-1000XM5 — $328 $399.99 (save $71.99)Bose QuietComfort Ultra — $379 $429 (save $50)AirPods Max — $449.99 $549 (save $99.01)EarbudsJBL Vibe Beam — $29.95 $49.95 (save $20)OnePlus Nord Buds 2 — $29.99 $59.99 (save $30)Echo Buds (2023) — $34.99 $49.99 (save $15)JBL Tune Buds — $49.95 $99.95 (save $40)JBL Tune Flex — $49.95 $99.95 (save $40)Google Pixel Buds A-Series — $59 $99 (save $40)Jabra Elite 4 — $59.99 $99.99 (save $40)Echo Buds with ANC — $64.99 $119.99 (save $55)JBL Endurance Peak 3 — $69.95 $99.95 (save $30)Samsung Galaxy Buds FE — $69.99 $99.99 (save $30)Jabra Elite 4 Active — $69.99 $119.99 (save $60)JBL Live Pro 2 — $74.95 $149.95 (save $75)Jabra Elite 5 — $79.99 $149.99 (save $70)Sony WF-C700N — $88 $119.99 (save $31.99)JBL Reflect Aero — $89.95 $149.95 (save $60)Beats Studio Buds — $99.95 $149.95 at Amazon (save $50)Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 — $99.99 $149.99 (save $50)OnePlus Buds Pro 2 — $99.99 $179.99 (save $80)Google Pixel Buds Pro — $119.99 $199.99 (save $80)LG TONE Free Earbuds T90 — $129.99 $229.99 (save $100)Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro — $159.99 $229.99 (save $70)Beats Powerbeats Pro — $149.95 $249.95 at Amazon (save $100)Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II — $199 $279 (save $80)Sony WF-1000XM5 — $248 $299.99 (save $51.99)Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds — $249 $299 (save $50)

Yes, that’s objectively a lot of money. But they normally run 700 bucks and are widely considered one of the best sounding pairs of earbuds on the market today. Here’s a detailed video review on them. No gimmicks. Just pristine audio. If you take care of these buds, they’ll last many, many years to come. No need to worry about deteriorating battery life when you’re plugged in the old fashioned way — with a USB-C dongle nowadays, I guess. Cyber Monday has emerged as a pivotal digital counterpart to the traditional post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy, serving as an alternative to Black Friday. Its origins unfold from the early 2000s to its current status as an anticipated online shopping event.

In 2023, shoppers have a plethora of discounts and deals to look forward to during Cyber Monday and Black Friday, with Sephora, Ulta Beauty and Nordstrom starting holiday discounts early (the Sephora Sale began in October and Ulta Beauty is advertising up to 50 percent off online). Nordstrom is boasting deals of up to 70 percent off the week of Thanksgiving and advertising Cyber Monday deals, too.

According to experts from Boston Consulting Group, despite inflation and a tense geopolitical landscape, shoppers still plan to spend this holiday season. A consumer behavior survey published by the e-commerce company Shopify titled “Shopify-Gallup Holiday Shopping Pulse” pointed out that nearly 75 percent of shoppers plan to spend the same or more on gifts compared to last year.

Why Is It called Cyber Monday?

The Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend was coined by the National Retail Federation in 2005 by the company’s online arm, Shop.org, as online shopping became more popular.

When did Cyber Monday become popular?

The e-commerce holiday saw a rise in popularity in the early 2000s after the advent of the internet.

Cyber Monday was introduced to capture the surge in online sales occurring on the Monday after Thanksgiving. As high-speed internet and e-commerce became more popular, Cyber Monday became a strategic response to more consumers seeking holiday deals online.

Is Cyber Monday a Holiday?

Cyber Monday is not a U.S. bank holiday or public holiday.

Cyber Monday is one of the year’s busiest shopping days, with many business, e-commerce transactions and holiday shopping conducted during the discount period. Some companies like Target, T.J. Maxx and Walmart start their sales earlier than the Monday after the Thanksgiving weekend.

Cyber Monday allows online shopping to thrive without the constraints of physical store hours.

Cyber Monday on TikTok

Younger consumers are looking for deals and holiday gifts on Instagram Shopping and TikTok Shop. According to Shopify, nearly 50 percent of Gen Z plan to purchase some gifts through social media.

TikTok Shop’s Black Friday deals began advertising 50 percent off beauty products, 15- to 25-percent-off coupons, and 30-percent-off coupons with no minimum spend for first-time shoppers in late October.

Shopify also noted more than 60 percent of consumers polled plan on purchasing something for themselves during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Where Are the Best Cyber Monday and Black Friday Deals?

Sephora: The beauty giant just finished its annual Sephora Sale, in which Sephora members and VIPs get access to shocking deals from the beauty retailer. This year, shoppers have Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals to look forward to, too, with discounts reaching 50 percent off several beauty items.

Target: The retailer offers price-matching deals and will match the lower price of an item found on the site of its competitors. Target is also offering early Black Friday deals that will run to Nov. 25. The retail company is advertising several deals online, with discounts running up to 40 percent off apparel and accessories. Target is also hosting a two-day Cyber Monday event with discounts running from Nov. 26 to 27.

Amazon: Shoppers can save 35 percent on computers and video games. Several other items are also on sale, including up to 50 percent discounts on beauty and personal care items.

Nordstrom: The discount retail chain is advertising Cyber Monday deals on clothing and shoes with markdowns on shoppers’ favorite brands like Uggs, Nike, Hunter and The North Face.

Abercrombie & Fitch: Abercrombie is offering 40 percent off kids’ apparel during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Saks Fifth Avenue: The department store chain is advertising up to 50 percent off of select apparel and up to 75 percent off of designer styles during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Ulta Beauty: The beauty giant is offering up to 50 percent off beauty products all week.

Urban Outfitters: The retail corporation offers shoppers early access to Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Consumers can save up to 25 percent off and earn free shipping on their orders when they spend $75 or more.

Cyber Monday deals can change each year, and savvy consumers may find valuable promotions from a variety of retailers across different sectors.
